How to Schedule

If you are a current Illinois student, advising options are outlined below. EXP offers both in-person and Zoom appointments.  Advisors are available to discuss major selection, course planning, ICT requirements, academic progress, and all other academic-related questions.

If you are a prospective or newly admitted student or student looking to return to Illinois after time away, please scroll to the bottom of this page for more information about your scheduling options.

Undeclared Advising

Advising for current undeclared students is now arranged alphabetically with teams of advisors serving specific groups of students based on the first letter of each student’s last name. Please click below to find your advisor or advising team.

Specialty Advising

In addition to the Advising Team options above, Undeclared students who are in a special EXP cohort like the Enrichment Experience ProgramJames Scholar Honors Program or Advising in Weston Hall, may elect to meet with the leads for those programs.

New, Returning or ICT

Prospective Student – someone who is considering attending the University of Illinois in the future.
Admitted Student – someone whose application to the University of Illinois was accepted, but has not yet started attending classes.
Returning Student – someone who has taken time away from the University of Illinois and wishes to start taking classes again.
ICT into EXP – someone who is a current University of Illinois student in another College who wishes to transfer to EXP.

Prospective or Admitted

Prospective or Newly Admitted Students should schedule an appointment.

Returning Student

Returning Illinois students should call 217-333-4710 to schedule an appointment with Jessica Arnold, Senior Associate Director.

Inter-College Transfer to EXP

Current Illinois students who want to discuss how to transfer into EXP from their current college, should call 217-333-4710 to schedule an appointment with Jessica Arnold, Senior Associate Director. 


Frequently Asked Questions

Am I required to meet with someone on my Advising Team?

Meeting with a member of your Advising Team is highly recommended but not required. 

I am a James Scholar. Can I meet with Assistant Director, Sarah Smothers, for advising?

Yes, as a James Scholar student you can meet with someone on your Advising Team or with Sarah Smothers.

I am in the Enrichment Experience Program (EEP). Can I meet with an EEP advisor?

Yes, as a student in EEP, you can meet with someone on your Advising Team or with an appointed EEP advisor. 

I have a question about my EXP 101 class. Can I schedule to meet with my course instructor?

Yes, you can schedule an appointment with your EXP 101 instructor if you have EXP 101 specific questions.

I am interested in withdrawing for the term. Who should I meet with?

If you are considering withdrawing from your current courses and leaving the university, you need to call the Division of Exploratory Studies at 217-333-4710.  Please inform the receptionist of your desire to withdraw from the university and they will schedule you to meet with Director, Sarah Watson, or Associate Director, Teri Farr.

How do I schedule to meet the EXP Director or Associate Directors who are not listed on this scheduling site?

There are no appointments available with someone on my advising team. Can I schedule with another advising team?
